Krust (Kirk Thompson) is a foundational architect of the Bristol drum and bass scene and a key member of the Full Cycle and Reprazent collectives. Emerging in the late 1980s with Fresh 4, he transitioned into jungle and drum and bass, helping to define the 'Bristol Sound' alongside Roni Size and DJ Die.
His work is characterized by a move away from the frantic breakbeats of early jungle toward a more 'steppers' style, defined by minimalist arrangements, heavy sub-bass, and a cinematic, often eerie atmosphere. His 1997 track 'Warhead' is widely credited with shifting the genre's trajectory toward a more streamlined, tech-step influenced sound. Beyond music, Thompson's career is marked by a fascination with Neuro-Linguistic Programming and creative psychology, which informs the 'cerebral' and 'disruptive' nature of his compositions. His 2020 return, 'Edge of Everything,' reaffirmed his position as an avant-garde producer capable of pushing the sonic boundaries of the 170 BPM template into high-art territory.
