La Chanson du Dimanche

Cynical French wit meets cheap Casio keyboards and acoustic guitars. Playful, topical, and charmingly lo-fi songs for a slow Sunday morning.

Intro

Imagine two friends in a Parisian apartment with a cheap keyboard, an acoustic guitar, and a very sharp sense of the absurd. La Chanson du Dimanche sounds like the best kind of amateurism: the melodies are instantly catchy, the production is delightfully unpolished, and the energy is infectious. It is music that refuses to take itself seriously while being incredibly observant about the world.

The magic lies in the contrast between the sunny, often tropical-influenced rhythms and the biting social commentary. One moment they are singing about ecology or strikes, and the next they are leaning into a disco-fied synth line that sounds like it came straight from a 1980s toy. It is the sound of the internet's early DIY era, where charm and wit mattered more than studio polish.

Start with 'Bonne humeur' to understand their foundational optimism, then move to 'Petit cheminot' to see how they capture a specific cultural moment. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who likes their pop music with a side of satire and a very human, unpretentious touch.

La Chanson du Dimanche is a French musical group founded in 2007. In the tradition of the French chansonniers, their concept is to broadcast a new song every Sunday. Formed by Clément Marchand (guitar & vocals) and Alexandre Castagnetti "Alec" (keyboard & vocals), their songs use many different musical styles (zouk, disco, folk, chanson) and deal with daily themes, politics, ecology, people, to name a few. They usually inspire a lot of positive energy and good mood ("bonne humeur" was their very first song). Initially a mere funny experiment, they became quite popular in France through the video-sharing and social networks web sites, and particularly through their song "Petit cheminot" during a strike in December 2007.
