La Sera

La Sera is the solo-turned-band project of Katy Goodman, established in 2010 following her tenure as the bassist for the influential garage-punk trio Vivian Girls. The project represents a significant shift from the abrasive, wall-of-sound aesthetic of her former band toward a more melodic, song-oriented approach heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups like The Ronettes and The Shangri-Las.

Over the course of four studio albums, La Sera evolved from a lo-fi, reverb-heavy bedroom project into a polished indie-rock outfit. Early releases on Hardly Art emphasized a 'dream-pop' haze, while later work, particularly under the production of Ryan Adams on 'Music for Listening to Music To,' leaned into Americana and power-pop territories. Goodman's signature vocal style - multi-tracked, airy, and harmonically dense - remains the project's sonic anchor. Critically, La Sera is recognized for bridging the gap between the 2000s garage-rock revival and the more melodic indie-pop movements of the 2010s, maintaining a cult following within the 'sad girl' and surf-rock subcultures.
