Intro

Lama occupies a specific, shimmering space in the Ukrainian musical landscape, where the grit of alternative rock meets the high-gloss finish of sophisticated pop. The sound is defined by Natalia Dzenkiv's distinctive vocal style: a breathy, almost whispered delivery that can suddenly swell into powerful, emotive choruses. It is music that feels deeply personal yet structurally grand, often utilizing wide-screen production that favors atmosphere over aggression.

What makes the project stand out is the seamless integration of electronic textures with traditional rock instrumentation. You will hear delay-heavy guitars that recall early 2000s Britpop, but they are anchored by warm synthesizers and a rhythmic sensibility that leans toward the dancefloor without ever fully committing to it. This creates a sense of perpetual motion, like a car driving through a city at night, capturing both the loneliness of the individual and the energy of the surroundings.

For those new to the artist, the debut era remains a foundational touchstone. Start with the early singles to hear the blueprint of their sound: catchy, guitar-driven melodies paired with lyrics that explore the complexities of modern romance and self-discovery. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who appreciates the intersection of radio-ready hooks and genuine emotional depth.

Lama is a Ukrainian pop/rock band. It became popular after release of their first singles: "Meni tak treba" (I Need So) and "Moje sertse" (My Heart). Their third single was "Litak" (Airplane). Lama's first album Meni tak treba was released in 2006. The active members of Lama are Natalia Dzenkiv (vocals, lyrics), Andriy Aleksyeyev (guitar), Zurab Rogava (bass guitar) and Dmytro Suprunyuk (drums). In 2007 Lama got the Best Ukrainian act award of MTV Europe Music Awards. Dzeňkiv has stated in interview that she is planning to record songs in English, and has no plans to sing in Russian.
