LAZY

High-voltage 70s rock that bridges the gap between sugary idol pop and the thunderous birth of Japanese heavy metal. Energetic, melodic, and surprisingly heavy.

Intro

LAZY (レイジー) is a pivotal Japanese rock band formed in 1973, primarily significant for being the launching pad for several icons of Japanese music history. Originally marketed as a 'pop idol' group by their management, the members - Hironobu Kageyama (vocals), Akira Takasaki (guitar), and Munetaka Higuchi (drums) - were deeply influenced by Western hard rock acts like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.

Their early career was characterized by a struggle between their manufactured 'cute' image and their desire to play heavy music. This culminated in their 1980 album 'Uchuusen Chikyuugou', a landmark release that transitioned the band into heavy metal and laid the groundwork for the 'Japanese Metal' movement. Following their 1981 disbandment, Takasaki and Higuchi formed Loudness, achieving international fame, while Kageyama became the 'Prince of Anime Songs', famous for the Dragon Ball Z theme. The band has reunited periodically since 1998, maintaining a legacy as the technical progenitors of J-Rock's harder edge.
