Lefties Soul Connection

Lefties Soul Connection is a cornerstone of the European 'Deep Funk' revival that emerged in the early 2000s. Formed in Amsterdam in 2001, the band quickly distinguished themselves from their peers by incorporating a 'garage' aesthetic, favoring raw, slightly distorted production over the slicker sounds of contemporary R&B.

Their core identity is built on a foundation of instrumental prowess, heavily influenced by the minimalist funk of The Meters and the soulful organ-led grooves of Booker T. G.' s. A pivotal moment in their career was their cover of DJ Shadow's 'Organ Donor,' which showcased their ability to translate hip-hop's breakbeat DNA back into a live band context. This cross-pollination earned them respect in both the rare groove and DJ communities. Over time, they evolved from a strictly instrumental outfit to collaborating with powerhouse vocalists like Michelle David, expanding their reach into gospel and blues-infused soul. Critically, they are regarded as one of the most authentic practitioners of raw funk, prized by vinyl collectors for their limited 45rpm releases on the Melting Pot Music label.
