Les Discrets

Lush, sepia-toned guitar washes that feel like a walk through a foggy French city. Melancholic shoegaze for quiet reflection and autumn nights.

Intro

Les Discrets creates music that feels like a living painting, specifically one rendered in charcoal and watercolors. It is deeply rooted in a French aesthetic of romanticism and urban melancholy, where distorted guitars don't feel aggressive but rather like a warm, protective haze. The sound is thick with atmosphere, blending the expansive structures of post-rock with the intimate, blurred edges of shoegaze.

What sets them apart is the vision of founder Fursy Teyssier, who is an illustrator as much as a musician. This visual background translates into songs that have a distinct sense of place and texture. While their peers in the 'blackgaze' scene often lean into intensity, Les Discrets favors a 'discreet' approach, focusing on breathy vocal harmonies, melodic basslines, and a rhythmic pulse that eventually evolved to include trip-hop and indie rock influences.

Start with 'Septembre et ses dernières pensées' to experience their most iconic, nature-inspired sound. It is the perfect companion for the transition from summer to autumn, offering a sophisticated kind of sadness that feels both comforting and profoundly cinematic.

Les Discrets is a French post-rock project created and led by Fursy Teyssier as a "platform gathering music and art." Teyssier was the sole member of the band until 2009, when he was joined by Audrey Hadorn and Winterhalter. Les Discrets released Septembre et Ses Dernières Pensées in March 2010, Ariettes oubliées... in February 2012. Winterhalter left the band in 2013 to focus on his duties for Alcest. The band's third album Prédateurs, was released in April 2017, which saw a transition towards an indie rock and trip hop-oriented sound. The band considers its name to mean "Those who keep silent", although "The Discreet Ones" would be a more accurate translation.
