Lifted

Lifted is an experimental electronic collective spearheaded by Matt Papich (Co La) and Maxmillion Dunbar (of Beautiful Swimmers). Emerging from the fertile Baltimore and DC underground scenes, the project functions as an open-ended workshop for 'leftfield techno' and 'fourth world' ambient explorations.

Their 2015 debut on the prestigious PAN label solidified their status as architects of a new, digital jazz aesthetic. The project is notable for its high-caliber guest list, including ambient legend Gigi Masin and Motion Graphics, whose contributions are often deconstructed and reassembled into rhythmic, glitch-inflected compositions. Critically, Lifted is viewed as a bridge between the dancefloor-adjacent world of Future Times and the more academic, textural experiments of European labels like PAN. Their sound identity is defined by a rejection of rigid grids in favor of fluid, improvisational structures that utilize digital clarity to highlight microscopic sonic details. They occupy a unique space in the contemporary electronic landscape, appealing to fans of both modular synthesis and avant-garde jazz.
