Liquid Soul

Liquid Soul is the primary project of Swiss producer Nicola Capobianco, a pivotal figure in the evolution of progressive psytrance. Emerging from the Zurich trance scene in the early 1990s, Capobianco transitioned from a successful DJ career to production, launching Liquid Soul in 2001.

His sound bridged the gap between the commercial appeal of Paul van Dyk-style progressive trance and the underground complexity of psychedelic trance. This hybrid approach led to significant critical and commercial success, including multiple Beatport awards and a long-standing association with the influential Iboga Records. The project is credited with refining the 'progressive' side of psytrance, prioritizing clean production, melodic depth, and a 'rolling' rhythmic structure over the chaotic textures of traditional psy. While a separate US-based acid jazz group shares the name, the Swiss Liquid Soul remains the dominant global brand in electronic circles, influencing a generation of producers including Ace Ventura and Protonica. His work is characterized by a high-gloss aesthetic and a focus on hypnotic, functional dance music that maintains a cinematic sense of scale.
