Lordz of Brooklyn

Gritty, sample-heavy hip-hop that smells like spray paint and asphalt. A soulful but tough tribute to old-school Brooklyn street culture and family roots.

Intro

Lordz of Brooklyn sound like the intersection of a Saturday night block party and a Sunday morning family dinner. Their music is built on the foundation of classic 90s boom-bap, layered with dusty soul samples, sharp turntable scratches, and a distinctively gritty, working-class perspective. It is tough and street-wise, yet deeply melodic and occasionally mournful.

What sets them apart is their unapologetic embrace of their Italian-American heritage within the hip-hop landscape. They don't just rap; they tell stories of neighborhood loyalty, personal tragedy, and the specific textures of New York life. The production often leans into a cinematic quality, blending the raw energy of a basement punk show with the sophisticated sampling techniques of the Soul Assassins camp.

Start with 'All in the Family' to hear them at their most foundational. It captures the mid-90s New York aesthetic perfectly, balancing aggressive delivery with infectious, sample-driven hooks that feel like a lost soundtrack to a gritty urban drama.

Lordz of Brooklyn is an American hip hop group from New York. The group was started by brothers Michael McLeer (Kaves) and Adam McLeer (ADMoney) as the Verrazano Boys but eventually changed to Lordz of Brooklyn where they were joined by Dino Cerillo (Bottz), Paul Nugent (Paulie Two Times), and Scotty Westerman (Scotty Edge). In 1995, their debut album All in the Family, received favorable reviews and established them as a well known underground group. Through the rest of the 90s, they would often collaborate with Everlast and in 2000 with Bumpy Knuckles they released the EP The Lordz of Brooklyn Meet Bumpy Knuckles. In 2003 they released the album Graffiti Roc which included collaborations by Busta Rhymes, Korn, Rampage, etc. Rebranded as The Lordz, they released the album The Brooklyn Way (2006) and had a reality show by the same name a year later. While the group continued touring they eventually returned to their original name and released the album Family Reunion in 2020.
