Los Jaivas

Los Jaivas are the definitive architects of Andean progressive rock, a group that successfully bridged the gap between indigenous South American musical traditions and the experimental frontiers of 1970s rock. Formed in Viña del Mar, Chile, in 1963, the band evolved from a traditional tropical group into a psychedelic and progressive powerhouse.

Their sound identity is defined by the 'Jaivas' style: a mix of pentatonic Andean scales, complex piano arrangements influenced by classical music, and the aggressive energy of rock. Their 1981 masterpiece, 'Alturas de Macchu Picchu', is considered one of the most important albums in Latin American history, effectively merging high literature with symphonic rock.
