Intro

Los Rakas deliver a sound that is physically impossible to sit still to. It is a vibrant, percussive collision of their Panamanian roots and their Oakland upbringing, characterized by heavy digital basslines and sharp, rhythmic vocal delivery. The music feels like a summer day in a city where the borders between genres have completely dissolved, blending the tropical heat of the Caribbean with the cool, calculated swagger of California rap.

What truly sets them apart is the 'Pana-Bay' aesthetic. While many artists attempt to bridge Latin and Urban markets, Los Rakas do it with an organic authenticity that avoids commercial tropes. They utilize the syncopation of dancehall and the grit of hyphy music to create a texture that is both street-ready and club-friendly, often switching between Spanish and English mid-verse without losing a beat of their momentum.

Start with their 2014 album 'El Negrito Dun Dun & Ricardo' to hear the full scope of their vision. It perfectly showcases the dual personalities of the group, moving from aggressive club bangers to soulful, introspective tracks that explore Afro-Latino identity and the immigrant experience in America.

Los Rakas are a Grammy Award–nominated bilingual hip hop group based in Oakland, California, consisting of Panamanian cousins Raka Rich and Raka Dun. Their style consists of a mixture of hip hop influences with reggaeton, reggae, and dancehall. One of their notable collaborations includes the American new Wave band Blondie on their 2014 studio album Ghosts of Download, where they appeared as a featured artist on the track "I Screwed Up". Other collaborations include music with: E-40, Nina Sky, Baby Bash, Berner, Keak Da Sneak, Kool John, San Quinn, Show Banga, X-raided, Goapale, IAMSU!, Baby Gas, & Atropolis. As of 04/20/22 Los Rakas have partnered with Camabis [2] to release their own cannabis strain "Raka Exotic". They are currently working on a new studio album expected to drop between late 2022 and early 2023.
