Los Rancheros are a foundational fixture of the Argentinian 'Rock Nacional' scene of the 1990s. Formed in 1988 by Rubén 'Meno' Fernández and Miguel Gabbanelli following the breakup of Autobús, the band quickly established a signature sound characterized by melodic pop-rock sensibilities and polished production.
Their debut was notably produced by Andrés Calamaro, whose influence helped sharpen their songwriting edge. Throughout the 90s, albums like 'Tierra bendita' and 'Ni por todo el oro del mundo' propelled them to massive popularity not just in Argentina, but across the Southern Cone and eventually the US Latin market. Their career is marked by a brief hiatus in the early 2000s followed by a successful 2006 reunion that saw them collaborating with icons like David Lebón and Ale Sergi. Critically, they are viewed as masters of the mid-tempo ballad and the radio-friendly rock anthem, occupying a cultural space similar to Enanitos Verdes or Vilma Palma e Vampiros. They remain a staple of nostalgic rock programming and live festival circuits.
