Intro

Loscil creates music that feels like a physical environment, specifically one characterized by mist, water, and muted light. It is ambient music with a skeletal rhythmic pulse, often derived from the 'loscil' function in Csound that gives the project its name. The sound is clean but deeply atmospheric, avoiding the harshness of industrial noise in favor of a fluid, dub-influenced minimalism that suggests movement without ever feeling rushed.

What sets Scott Morgan apart is his ability to balance digital precision with organic warmth. While his foundations are electronic and loop-based, he frequently incorporates live instrumentation like piano, vibraphone, and strings, processing them until they become part of the weather. There is a profound sense of place in his work, often reflecting the moody, maritime geography of the Pacific Northwest.

Newcomers should start with 'Endless Falls' for its perfect distillation of his rainy-day aesthetic, or 'Submers' if they prefer a more conceptual, underwater experience. His more recent work like 'Clara' explores more crystalline, orchestral textures while maintaining the hypnotic, looping core that defines his catalog.

Scott Morgan, also known by the pseudonym Loscil, is a Canadian electronic/ambient music musician from Vancouver, British Columbia. Morgan launched the Loscil project in Vancouver in 1998 while a member of the multimedia collective Multiplex, which curated audiovisual events at an underground cinema called The Blinding Light. The name Loscil is taken from the "looping oscillator" function (loscil) in Csound. Morgan was also the drummer for the Vancouver indie band Destroyer. As Loscil, he has also produced numerous special projects, remixes, and collaborations with other musicians, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Murcof/Vanessa Wagner, Sarah Neufeld, Daniel Bejar, bvdub, Rachel Grimes, and Kelly Wyse.
