Luisa Almaguer

Expansive synth-pop that feels like a neon-lit confession. A blend of shoegaze haze and sharp, political vulnerability for late nights in the city.

Intro

Luisa Almaguer creates music that exists in the shimmering tension between vulnerability and defiance. Her sound is a sophisticated evolution of synth-pop, where the melodies are often submerged in a hazy, shoegaze-adjacent atmosphere. It feels like a private conversation happening in a crowded, noisy room; there is an intimacy to her vocal delivery that draws you in, even as the production pulses with an icy, digital precision.

What truly sets her apart is how she uses the tools of hyperpop and electronic music to document the trans experience in Mexico. Her music is never just about the beat; it is a vehicle for storytelling that addresses systemic violence and personal identity with a cool, almost detached intensity. The textures are often liquid and shifting, moving from sparse, skeletal arrangements to dense walls of synthetic sound.

Start with her 2023 album 'Wey' to hear her most refined balance of pop accessibility and experimental edge. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who appreciates music that challenges the listener emotionally while providing a lush, immersive sonic environment to get lost in.

Luisa Almaguer is a Mexican singer, actress and communicator. Her sound encompasses trova, shoegaze, hyperpop and grunge, among others. She has participated in various musical projects, as well as in different music festivals such as FICUNAM, Festival Marvin, Museo Tamayo, MUAC, Multiforo Alicia, Centro de Cultura Digital. She was also part of the REMEXCLA festival, the first organized by Spotify in Mexico. She has also collaborated with Damon Albarn and founded the first Latin American podcast of trans experiences, called La hora trans (The Trans Hour). For Almaguer, it is important to present herself as a trans singer because of the violence and stigmatization that this community experiences in Latin America. In her music, Almaguer talks about trans experiences, as well as the violence that this community experiences and her experience as a victim of it. During her time as an actress, she has contributed to The Gigantes, Una mano bajo la nieve y otras historias, and Padre Pablo.
