Lunar was a pivotal Croatian post-rock ensemble formed in 1998 following the dissolution of the band Gone Bald. Centered around the rhythmic core of Bojan (drums) and Nixa (bass), the band underwent several lineup changes before solidifying their sound with guitarists Davor and Mijo.
Their identity is defined by a stripped-back, instrumental approach that eschews the symphonic tendencies of modern post-rock in favor of a more angular, noise-influenced aesthetic. Their debut, 'There Is No One' (2000), garnered significant critical acclaim across Europe, leading to extensive touring. The band's history is marked by a tragic 'lost album' incident where their sophomore effort, 'First And Last Lost', was destroyed due to a hardware failure. They eventually returned with 'Turbo' (2004) on Moonlee Records. Culturally, they represent a specific era of Balkan independent music that bridged the gap between punk-derived noise and experimental rock, influencing a generation of regional instrumental acts.
