Mão Morta is a seminal Portuguese avant-garde rock collective formed in 1985 in Braga. Emerging from a serendipitous connection to the New York No Wave scene via Swans, the band developed a sound that bridged post-punk, industrial, and art rock.
Led by the charismatic and often provocative Adolfo Luxúria Canibal, the group became famous for high-intensity live performances that occasionally bordered on performance art. Their sonic identity is defined by a heavy emphasis on the rhythm section, dissonant guitar work, and Canibal's signature 'Sprechgesang' vocal style. 21' achieving significant commercial success without sacrificing their experimental edge.
