Marion

Marion emerged from Macclesfield in 1993, uniquely positioned as the proteges of Joe Moss, the legendary manager who helped shape The Smiths. This lineage is evident in their sophisticated musicality and disciplined rehearsal ethic.

While often lumped into the Britpop movement, Marion possessed a darker, more muscular sound than contemporaries like Menswear or Dodgy, leaning closer to the dramatic art-rock of Gene or the jagged energy of early Suede. Their sound identity is built on the dual-guitar attack of Phil Cunningham and Anthony Grantham, characterized by interlocking, melodic lines that avoid standard power-chord cliches. Vocalist Jaime Harding provided a focal point of intense, baritone-leaning charisma. Despite a massive bidding war and critical acclaim for their debut 'This World and Body', the band's trajectory was hampered by internal struggles and the shifting tides of the UK music industry.
