Matter

Matter is a pivotal Slovenian hip-hop collective consisting of Dacho, Tunja, and Levanael. Emerging from Kamnik in 2014, they fundamentally altered the landscape of Slovenian rap by introducing a 'cloud rap' aesthetic characterized by heavy reverb, abstract lyricism, and a detached vocal delivery.

Their debut, Amphibios (2016), established a signature sound that favored atmospheric density over the boom-bap traditions previously dominant in the region. Their subsequent work, including Mrk and Troglav, saw them leaning further into experimental textures, incorporating elements of industrial techno and rhythmic noise. Critically, they are noted for their use of irony and local cultural signifiers to create a unique form of 'self-mythology.' They occupy a central role in the rx:tx label roster and have influenced a new generation of Adriatic artists by proving that localized slang and surrealist themes can coexist with high-concept electronic production. Their sound is often compared to the darker edges of the Swedish cloud rap scene but remains rooted in a specific Central European urban melancholy.
