Merlin was a seminal Yugoslavian folk rock band formed in Sarajevo in 1983, led by singer-songwriter Edin Dervišhalidović (later known as Dino Merlin). The group became one of the most commercially successful and culturally significant acts in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
Their sound identity is characterized by a sophisticated fusion of regional Balkan folk motifs and contemporary Western pop-rock, specifically influenced by the New Wave and synth-pop movements of the early 1980s.
