Mild High Club

Mild High Club, the creative vehicle for Los Angeles-based musician Alexander Brettin, emerged in the mid-2010s as a pivotal figure in the neo-psychedelia and lo-fi pop scenes. Brettin, a formally trained jazz musician, utilizes the project to explore the intersection of 1970s soft rock, Brazilian bossa nova, and psychedelic pop.

The project's sound identity is defined by heavy use of pitch modulation (vibrato and chorus), vintage synthesizer textures, and Brettin's breathy, understated vocal delivery. After signing to Stones Throw Records, the band released 'Timeline' (2015) and the critically acclaimed 'Skiptracing' (2016), the latter of which solidified their reputation for 'woozy' production. A notable career milestone was the 2017 collaboration with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on 'Sketches of Brunswick East,' which highlighted Brettin's jazz-fusion influences. Critically, the band is praised for bringing technical harmonic sophistication to the 'slacker rock' aesthetic. They occupy a cultural space alongside artists like Mac DeMarco and HOMESHAKE, serving as a bridge between indie-pop accessibility and crate-digger musicality.
