Formed in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey, the Misfits are an American band credited with pioneering the horror punk genre. By merging punk rock with themes from horror cinema, the group established a distinct musical identity. Led by constant member Jerry Only, the band released influential hardcore punk records like Walk Among Us and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood through their label, Plan 9 Records, before their initial disbandment in 1983.
