Moonlight is a seminal Polish band formed in 1991 in Szczecin, emerging as a key figure in the Central European gothic scene. Initially associated with the 'female-fronted metal' boom of the 1990s, the band distinguished themselves through a high degree of musical literacy and a refusal to be pigeonholed.
Their early work, exemplified by appearances at the Castle Party festival, blended gothic rock with metal, but the departure of key composer Daniel Potasz in 2002 marked a pivot toward experimentalism. Later albums integrated trip-hop beats, electronic textures, and progressive rock arrangements, alienating some purists while earning critical respect for their artistic bravery. Maja Konarska's vocal performance remains their most cited characteristic, often compared to the dramatic delivery of Polish icons like Closterkeller but with a more ethereal, art-rock sensibility.
