Motograter

Motograter is a pivotal, if cult-classic, entity in the American nu metal and industrial metal scenes. Formed in 1995 in Santa Barbara, the band's identity is inextricably linked to the 'Motograter,' a custom-built instrument made of industrial cables and guitar components that produces a unique, percussive bass drone.

This innovation allowed them to bypass traditional bass guitar roles, creating a more mechanical and rhythmic sound. Their career is marked by significant lineup shifts, most notably featuring Ivan Moody (later of Five Finger Death Punch) on their 2003 debut. This era solidified their place in the 'NWOAHM' and nu metal canon, characterized by tribal body paint and high-energy live performances. Despite multiple hiatuses and reformations, the band has maintained a consistent sonic identity centered on industrial textures and aggressive, syncopated metal.
