MP

MP (often expanded as Melting Point in later years) is a German heavy and speed metal band formed in Witten in 1986. They emerged during the peak of the Teutonic thrash and speed metal explosion, though they leaned more toward the traditional heavy metal structures of bands like Accept or early Running Wild rather than the pure thrash of Kreator.

Their sound is defined by a 'live and loud' philosophy, characterized by high-tempo 'gallop' rhythms, aggressive but melodic guitar work, and a raw production aesthetic typical of the independent German labels of the late 80s like Steyrer Disco. Their career arc saw a strong initial run with 'Bursting Out' and 'Get It Now', followed by a shift toward a slightly more polished hard rock sound on 'Melting Point' (1992) before entering a period of sporadic activity and compilations. Within the metal taxonomy, they represent the 'cult' tier of European speed metal, highly valued by collectors of the era for their uncompromising energy and lack of commercial artifice.
