Musiqq is a foundational duo in modern Latvian pop, formed in 2009 in Liepāja. Comprising Marats Ogļezņevs and Emīls Balceris, the project emerged from Ogļezņevs's background in the hip-hop act Device.
Their sound identity is a sophisticated mix of R&B, synth-pop, and dance-oriented arrangements, characterized by high production values and a focus on melodic accessibility. They achieved immediate domestic success with singles like 'Abrakadabra' and 'Klimata kontrole', eventually representing Latvia at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. A significant aspect of their career is their dual identity; the members also perform as the satirical hip-hop group Bermudu Divstūris, though Musiqq remains their primary outlet for sincere, radio-ready pop. They are perennial favorites at the Latvian Music Recording Awards (Zelta Mikrofons) and maintain a dominant presence on regional streaming charts.
