MXM was a South Korean project duo formed by Brand New Music in 2017, consisting of members Lim Young-min and Kim Dong-hyun. Emerging from the massive cultural wave of the survival show Produce 101 Season 2, the duo served as a precursor to the larger group AB6IX.
Their sound identity is firmly rooted in the 'bright' side of K-pop, eschewing the dark, conceptual 'noise music' trends of their contemporaries in favor of synth-pop, funk, and R&B. Their discography, spanning from the debut EP UNMIX to the full-length MORE THAN EVER, demonstrates a consistent evolution toward a more mature, city-pop influenced sound. Critically, they were noted for their strong participation in the creative process, including songwriting and composition, which was relatively rare for rookie idol units at the time. They occupy a specific niche in the late-2010s K-pop scene as a bridge between traditional idol pop and the more groove-oriented 'K-R&B' aesthetic championed by their label. Their influence persists through the subsequent success of AB6IX, where both members continued to refine the melodic sensibilities established during their tenure as MXM.
