My Disco

MY DISCO is a seminal Australian experimental outfit that has undergone one of the most rigorous aesthetic evolutions in modern independent music. Formed in Melbourne in 2003, their early work was characterized by the frantic, odd-time complexity of math rock and the jagged edges of post-punk.

However, following the release of 'Cancer' in 2006, the band began a systematic process of reduction. This minimalist turn was solidified on 'Paradise', recorded with Steve Albini, which emphasized a dry, percussive sound that prioritized space and repetition over melody. Their later career, particularly from 'Severe' onwards, saw them abandon traditional rock structures entirely in favor of dark, industrial-influenced minimalism and drone. They are deeply embedded in the Melbourne DIY scene but have gained international recognition for their uncompromising tour ethic and their ability to bridge the gap between noise rock and avant-garde electronic music. Critically, they are viewed as masters of tension, using high-volume austerity to create a sense of physical and psychological pressure.
