Mythos

Mythos is a Canadian musical project formed in 1996 by classically trained musicians Bob D'Eith and Paul Schmidt. Emerging during the late-90s boom of 'world-chill' and electronic-influenced New Age, the duo carved out a niche by prioritizing high-fidelity production and sophisticated instrumental interplay over simple synth pads.

Their sound identity is defined by the contrast between Schmidt's nylon-string guitar work and D'Eith's melodic piano, often augmented by the bass of Rene Worst and the ethereal vocals of Jennifer Scott. Throughout their career, spanning from the breakthrough 'Introspection' (1995) to later works like 'Eros' (2018), they have maintained a consistent aesthetic of 'music without borders,' blending Western classical structures with subtle world-music flavors and downtempo electronic foundations. Critically, they are often grouped with acts like Enigma or Deep Forest, though Mythos leans more heavily into acoustic performance and cinematic composition. Their cultural position is firmly rooted in the 'lifestyle' music of the early 2000s, frequently appearing on high-end chillout compilations and film soundtracks.
