Intro

Naturally 7 creates a sound that is both familiar and fundamentally impossible. At first listen, you hear a tight, professional R&B and soul ensemble complete with a crisp drum kit, walking bass lines, and even distorted guitar solos. It is only when the brain catches up that you realize every single sound is being produced by seven human mouths. The result is a lush, organic wall of sound that feels warmer and more intimate than a traditional band.

What truly distinguishes them is their 'Vocal Play' philosophy. Unlike traditional a cappella which often feels like a choir, Naturally 7 functions as a band. They don't just sing the notes; they inhabit the timbres of the instruments they are replacing. You'll hear the metallic rasp of a trumpet, the woody thud of an upright bass, and the sharp crack of a rimshot, all delivered with incredible rhythmic precision and soulful vocal delivery.

Start with their cover of Phil Collins' 'Feel It (In the Air Tonight)' to hear their ability to recreate iconic production through vocal layers. From there, explore 'Both Sides Now' for more mature, orchestral-style arrangements that showcase their growth into sophisticated harmonic territory. It is music for people who love the craft of performance and the limitless potential of the human body.

Naturally 7 is an American music group with a distinct a cappella style they call "vocal play," which, according to group leader Roger Thomas, is "the art of becoming an instrument using the human voice to create the sound." They simulate the sounds of an instrumental band using only their voices, mouths and distortion effects. The group was formed in 1999 in New York City. It currently consists of the Thomas brothers Roger (musical director, arranger, first baritone, rapping) and Warren (drums, third tenor), Rod Eldridge (first tenor, scratching, guitar, trumpet), Ricky Cort (first tenor, guitar), Dwight Stewart (second baritone, vocals, trombone), Sean Simmonds (second tenor, harmonica), and N'Namdi Bryant (bass guitar, trumpet).
