Negrocan

Negrocan is a London-based collective that became a pivotal bridge between the UK's acid jazz/nu-jazz scene and the global Latin house explosion of the turn of the millennium. Formed in 1991, the group was led by producer and multi-instrumentalist Andy 'Negrocan' Hamilton alongside the Uruguayan and Brazilian musicians who populated London's diverse session scene.

Their sound identity is built on 'live-in-studio' performances, prioritizing the interplay of traditional South American rhythms (candombe, bossa nova, samba) with sophisticated jazz-funk arrangements. The group reached peak cultural visibility with the 2000 release of 'Cada Vez,' which, particularly through its various house remixes, became a staple of the Ibiza 'sunset' sound and a global club hit. Critically, they are respected for maintaining musical integrity and harmonic complexity within a dance music framework. Their influence can be seen in the works of artists like Masters at Work or Da Lata, where the focus remains on the 'musicianly' side of electronic production.
