Nestalgica

Nestalgica is a Swedish solo project dedicated to the 'VGM Metal' (Video Game Metal) subgenre, specifically focusing on the catalog of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Emerging during the mid-2010s boom of YouTube-based cover artists, Nestalgica distinguished itself through exceptionally clean production and a focus on melodic power metal arrangements.

The project follows in the footsteps of pioneers like Minibosses but adopts the high-gain, technical precision of modern metal players like Daniel Tidwell and FamilyJules. The sound identity is defined by the substitution of 8-bit synth leads with multi-tracked electric guitars, often employing Iron Maiden-style harmonies to flesh out the limited original voices of the Ricoh 2A03 sound chip. Critically, the project is respected within the niche for its 'purist' approach to melody, rarely deviating from the original compositions while significantly amping up the rhythmic intensity.
