Their sound identity is built on 'The Werf' studio aesthetic: a minimalist, often percussive approach to pop that utilizes silence and space as much as melody. Critically, they are viewed as a 'European' band par excellence, frequently referencing continental art, history, and geography. Their 1987 hit 'In the Dutch Mountains' remains their international calling card, though their legacy is cemented by a massive, consistent discography and the legendary live album 'Urk.'
