Nova Heart

Nova Heart is the brainchild of Helen Feng, a pivotal figure in the Chinese alternative music scene often referred to as the 'Queen of Beijing Rock.' Formed in 2012 following Feng's departure from the electronic group Pet Conspiracy, the project represents a fusion of her diverse background, spanning her upbringing in North America and her deep roots in Beijing's underground.

The sound is characterized by a blend of psychedelic disco, darkwave, and ethereal pop, largely defined by the collaboration between Feng and Italian producer Rodion. This partnership brought a 'Spaghetti Disco' influence to the gritty, urban atmosphere of Beijing's hutongs. Critically, Nova Heart is recognized for bridging the gap between Chinese indie music and international electronic trends, becoming one of the few Chinese acts to achieve significant touring success in Europe. Their aesthetic is often described as 'noir' or 'cinematic,' utilizing analog synthesizers and reverb-drenched vocals to create a sense of beautiful decay. The project remains a touchstone for the 'Beijing New Wave' and continues to influence the trajectory of electronic music in East Asia.
