Novelists

Novelists (formerly Novelists FR) are a cornerstone of the modern European progressive metalcore scene. Formed in Paris in 2013 by the Durand brothers, the band quickly distinguished themselves from the 'djent' pack through a unique emphasis on lead guitar virtuosity and atmospheric depth.

Their sound identity is built on Florestan Durand’s signature playing style, which incorporates jazz-fusion phrasing and crystalline tapping into a high-gain metal context. Over a decade-long career, the band has navigated significant lineup shifts, most notably in the vocal department, transitioning from Mattéo Gelsomino’s raspy delivery to Tobias Rische’s polished power, and finally to Camille Contreras’s versatile range. This evolution has seen them move from the raw, technical metalcore of 'Souvenirs' toward a more expansive, alternative-leaning sound on 'CODA'. Critically, they are praised for their production standards, often self-managed through their label ACKOR Music, which maintains a 'hi-fi' digital clarity that has influenced a wave of French metal acts like Resolve and Landmvrks. They occupy a cultural space that bridges the gap between technical 'guitar nerd' music and emotionally resonant, accessible metalcore.
