Heart-on-sleeve German indie that balances sharp observational wit with deep, unironic melancholy. Perfect for long walks and quiet, reflective Sundays.
Olli Schulz crafts music that feels like a long, honest conversation with a friend who knows exactly how to make you laugh right after making you cry. His sound is rooted in the classic Hamburg indie tradition, blending warm acoustic arrangements with a polished pop sensibility that never feels overproduced. It is intimate, grounded, and deeply human.
What truly sets him apart is his lyrical dexterity. He has a rare ability to pivot from absurd, self-deprecating humor to devastatingly sincere reflections on aging, loneliness, and the passage of time. His voice isn't technically perfect, but its conversational, slightly raspy quality makes every story feel lived-in and authentic, as if he's singing just for the person in the room.
Start with 'Feelings aus der Asche' to hear him at his most emotionally resonant. It captures the perfect intersection of his indie-rock energy and his growth as a mature songwriter. If you want something a bit more playful and eclectic, his earlier work with 'Der Hund Marie' offers a glimpse into the quirky foundations of his career.
