Part Chimp

Colossal, ear-splitting noise rock that prioritizes physical volume and sludgy riffs. It is music that feels like a heavy object falling in slow motion.

Intro

Part Chimp is a sonic assault in the best way possible. Their sound is defined by an almost irresponsible level of volume, where the guitars are so overdriven they begin to sound like heavy machinery. It is thick, syrupy noise rock that takes the DNA of grunge and sludge and stretches it into something much more visceral and punishing. The vocals are often treated as just another layer of texture, buried deep beneath a mountain of fuzz and feedback.

What makes them truly distinctive is their commitment to the 'heavy' without falling into the tropes of traditional metal. There is a swing and a groove to their chaos that feels more aligned with the art-damaged noise of the 90s, but amplified to a terrifying degree. They don't just play loud; they play with a density that feels physical, as if the air in the room has been replaced by liquid lead.

Start with 'I Am Come' for the definitive statement of their mid-2000s power. It captures the band at their most relentless, offering a masterclass in how to use feedback as a melodic tool. If you want something slightly more refined but no less heavy, their 2021 return 'Drool' proves they haven't lost an ounce of their ability to rattle teeth.

Part Chimp is an English noise rock band from Camberwell, London, that was formed by Tim Cedar, Jon Hamilton and Nick Prior in 2000. Their current line-up is Tim (vocals and guitar), Jon (drums), Joe McLaughlin (bass), Robin Freeman (bass), and Iain Hinchliffe (guitar). They play rock music with elements of noise. Both in recordings and live performances, Part Chimp have a reputation for sounding extremely loud. Their records have been released in the UK by Rock Action Records, in Europe and Japan by Play It Again Sam, and in the US by Monitor records.
