Grand, operatic worship that blends Hebraic melodies with orchestral pop. High-stakes, reverent music for moments of deep reflection and spiritual triumph.
Paul Wilbur creates a sound that feels both ancient and cinematic. Drawing on his training in Italian opera, his voice possesses a resonant, baritone authority that elevates standard worship music into something far more theatrical and monumental. The arrangements often feature sweeping strings, Middle Eastern rhythmic patterns, and the distinct, piercing call of the shofar, grounding the music in a specific Messianic Jewish aesthetic.
What sets Wilbur apart is the sheer scale of his recordings. Most of his definitive work is captured live, often in Jerusalem, which lends the music a palpable sense of place and communal energy. He avoids the trendy, minimalist indie-folk of modern worship in favor of a 'Wall of Sound' approach that utilizes full choirs and orchestral flourishes to create a sense of awe and historical weight.
Start with 'Jerusalem Arise' to hear Wilbur at his most iconic. It captures the essence of his mission: blending liturgical tradition with contemporary pop-rock energy in a way that feels like a massive, open-air celebration. It is music designed for the big moments of life, where only a grand, operatic gesture will suffice.
