Paula, formed in 1997 by Berend Intelmann and Elke Brauweiler, is a pivotal project in the German electropop landscape. Emerging from Berlin, the duo bridged the gap between the intellectual indie-rock scene and the rising electronic club culture of the late 90s.

Their sound identity is defined by Brauweiler's distinctive, often deadpan or breathy vocals and Intelmann's sophisticated synth arrangements.
