Intro

Pelle Miljoona sounds like the cold, grey streets of a Finnish port town suddenly ignited by the fire of 1977 London. It is music that feels lived-in and urgent, characterized by a distinctive rasp and a rhythmic drive that often switches between the frantic energy of punk and the steady, skanking pulse of roots reggae. There is an undeniable sense of motion in the sound, a restless spirit that refuses to stay in one place or settle for easy answers.

What makes him truly distinctive is the 'Godfather' status he holds in the Finnish scene, blending a very specific Nordic melancholy with the aggressive optimism of the first punk wave. Unlike his UK peers who often leaned into nihilism, Pelle's work frequently carries a poetic, almost romantic yearning for freedom and a better world. His ability to move from a three-chord thrash to a stripped-back acoustic protest song makes his catalog feel like a sprawling journal of a life spent on the fringes.

Start with the classic album 'Moottoritie on kuuma' to hear the definitive peak of Finnish new wave and punk. It captures the exact moment where his songwriting matured into something timeless, offering anthems that still resonate with anyone who has ever felt the urge to leave their small town behind. From there, explore his earlier work with N.U.S. for raw aggression, or his later 'Rockers' era for a more seasoned, blues-inflected take on the punk spirit.
