Cynical, internet-literate bedroom pop with a bite. Glitchy synths and deadpan vocals for those who find beauty in the mess of digital life.
Penelope Scott sounds like the inner monologue of a generation that grew up entirely online, filtered through a cracked laptop screen. Her music is a frantic, fascinating mix of lo-fi chiptune textures, baroque pop sensibilities, and the raw, unpolished energy of a bedroom demo. It is music that feels both claustrophobic and expansive, capturing the specific anxiety of being hyper-connected yet deeply isolated.
What truly sets her apart is her lyrical surgical precision. She weaponizes internet slang and meme culture to deliver devastating critiques of tech-worship, celebrity culture, and the performative nature of modern life. Her vocal delivery often sits in a deadpan, conversational space that makes her sudden bursts of melodic intensity or biting sarcasm feel earned and authentic. It is 'baroque punk' for the TikTok era.
Start with 'Public Void' to hear her at her most iconic. It is the perfect entry point for her blend of biting social commentary and glitchy, addictive production. From there, explore her more recent work like 'Water Dogs' to see how her sound has evolved with more polished production while keeping its sharp, intellectual edge.
