Pipe-Eye

Pipe-eye is the solo moniker of Nicholas Roderick 'Cook' Craig, a multi-instrumentalist best known as a member of the prolific Australian psych-rock outfits King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and The Murlocs. Launched in 2015 with the EP 'Cosmic Blip', Pipe-eye serves as a creative outlet for Craig's fascination with 1960s psychedelic pop, 1970s library music, and early electronic experimentation.

Unlike the high-octane garage and prog-rock of his primary bands, Pipe-eye is characterized by a mid-tempo, whimsical, and often surrealist approach to songwriting. His sound identity is built on 'wonky' analog synthesis, tape-saturated production, and a deadpan vocal delivery that recalls the eccentricities of Kevin Ayers or Syd Barrett. Critically, he is viewed as a master of 'vibe' and texture, often praised for his ability to create immersive, self-contained worlds within short, punchy tracks. His evolution has seen him move from the lo-fi psych-pop of 'Laugh About Life' to the more sophisticated, instrumental-leaning 'Dream Themes', which pays homage to vintage TV and film scores. Within the Melbourne psych scene, Pipe-eye represents the more introspective and experimental side of the Flightless Records/pizzicato-pop lineage.
