Pride and Fall emerged from the Norwegian goth/darkwave scene in 2000, specifically as an evolution of the project An Evening With Kisses. Based in Stavanger, the trio of Sigve Monsen, Per Waagen, and Svein Joar Auglænd Johnsen sought to integrate the emotional weight of their gothic roots with the emerging futurepop sound popularized by VNV Nation and Covenant.
Their 2003 debut 'Nephesh' established them as a major force in the genre, characterized by a cleaner, more melodic approach than their EBM contemporaries. Throughout the mid-2000s, they became a staple of the European dark-electronic festival circuit, touring extensively with genre giants. Their sound is defined by a sophisticated use of trance-influenced arpeggios, staccato bass programming, and Monsen's distinctive baritone vocals. Critically, they are noted for maintaining a high level of production polish across their career, avoiding the lo-fi tropes of early industrial in favor of a professional, studio-driven aesthetic that emphasizes clarity and dynamic range.
