Prophet

Prophet is a seminal figure in the New Jersey melodic rock scene of the 1980s, serving as a critical bridge between traditional hard rock and the polished AOR (Adult Oriented Rock) sound. Founded by Scott Metaxas and Joe Zujkowski, the band became a revolving door of elite talent, notably featuring Ted Poley before his rise to fame with Danger Danger.

Their 1985 self-titled debut is historically noted for the track 'Slow Down,' which many critics cite as a structural blueprint for Bon Jovi's 'Wanted Dead or Alive.' Their sophomore effort, 'Cycle of the Moon' (1988), remains their definitive work, showcasing a sophisticated blend of synth-heavy textures and aggressive guitar work that earned them a spot on the Billboard 200. Managed by Noel Monk of Van Halen fame, the band occupied a space between the pop-metal of the era and the more technical progressive rock influences of their early years. Despite frequent lineup changes, Prophet maintained a reputation for high-fidelity production and impeccable vocal arrangements, influencing a generation of melodic rock and 'hair metal' acts that followed.
