Gritty Marseille rap that balances street-level urgency with cinematic, melodic production. The sound of heritage, struggle, and brotherhood in the Mediterranean sun.
Psy 4 de la Rime represents the quintessential sound of Marseille hip-hop: a mixture of sun-drenched melancholy and aggressive street wisdom. Their music feels like a panoramic view of the Mediterranean coast filtered through the lens of high-rise social housing. It is characterized by a unique chemistry between three distinct rappers - Soprano's melodic reach, Alonzo's sharp flow, and Vincenzo's grounded presence - all tied together by the soulful, sample-heavy production of Sya Styles.
What makes them truly distinctive is their ability to weave North African and Comorian cultural identities into the fabric of French rap without losing the genre's raw edge. They utilize cinematic string arrangements and dusty boom-bap drums to create a backdrop for storytelling that is both deeply personal and broadly political. Their tracks often transition between high-energy anthems and reflective, moonlit ballads.
Start with 'Block Party' to hear the raw energy of their debut, or dive into 'Enfants de la lune' for a more polished, atmospheric experience. It is the perfect entry point for anyone wanting to understand the 'Marseille sound' that dominated French airwaves in the 2000s.
Psy 4 de la Rime (French pronunciation: [psi kat(ʁ) də la ʁim]) are a French hip hop band formed 1995 in Marseille comprising several rappers with immigrant backgrounds from former French colonies.
