Psychic Ills

Psychic Ills emerged from the New York underground in the early 2000s, initially associated with the city's experimental and noise scenes. Over their two-decade career, they evolved from the jagged, improvisational textures of their debut 'Dins' (2006) toward a more refined, song-oriented brand of psychedelia.

This transition was marked by their move to Sacred Bones Records, where albums like 'Hazed Dream' (2011) and 'One Track Mind' (2013) solidified their reputation as masters of the 'slow-burn' psych-rock aesthetic. Their sound is characterized by motorik rhythms, minimalist basslines, and Tres Warren's distinctive, lethargic vocal delivery. Culturally, they served as a bridge between the avant-garde experimentalism of the Social Registry era and the modern psych-rock revival led by labels like Sacred Bones and Levitation. The band's influence is felt in the way they integrated 'desert rock' and 'cosmic country' elements into a drone-heavy framework. Following the passing of Tres Warren in 2020, the band's legacy remains as a cornerstone of 21st-century American psychedelic music, celebrated for its atmospheric depth and unhurried cool.
