Dense, poetic rap that feels like a late-night philosophy seminar in a dusty record shop. Lo-fi jazz loops for deep thinkers and quiet nights.
Listening to R.A.P. Ferreira feels like eavesdropping on a brilliant mind talking to itself in a room filled with stacks of books and obscure jazz records. The music is defined by a gentle, unhurried pace, where dusty drum loops and submerged piano melodies provide a soft bed for intricate, non-linear poetry. It is hip-hop stripped of bravado, replaced by a quiet, searching curiosity that values the texture of a word as much as its meaning.
What makes Ferreira truly distinctive is his refusal to follow traditional song structures or rhythmic expectations. His flow is conversational and deadpan, often drifting across the beat like smoke, yet his technical precision is undeniable. He weaves together references to high philosophy, comic books, and mundane daily life with a surrealist touch, creating a sonic world that feels both deeply intellectual and intimately domestic.
Start with the album Purple Moonlight Pages for a lush, jazz-heavy introduction to his world, or Bob's Son if you want to hear his more experimental, self-produced explorations. It is music for people who want to lean in and listen closely, rewarding repeat plays with hidden layers of meaning and sonic detail.
Rory Allen Philip Ferreira (born February 3, 1992), better known by his stage name R.A.P. Ferreira, formerly Milo (often stylized as milo) and Scallops Hotel, is an American rapper, poet, and producer from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ferreira received moderate popularity and a cult following after the release of his first two projects, I Wish My Brother Rob Was Here and Milo Takes Baths. He was noticed by rappers Busdriver and Open Mike Eagle, later going on his first tour with them and signing to their label, Hellfyre Club. Ferreira's debut studio album, A Toothpaste Suburb, was released in September 2014. Due to challenges he had faced in the album's rollout, Ferreira subsequently founded his own record label, Ruby Yacht (stylized RBYT). He operates this label from his record store, Soulfolks Records, in Nashville, Tennessee.
