Rafiq Bhatia

Shattered jazz and sculptural electronics that feel like high-definition glass breaking in slow motion. Intense, precise, and deeply cinematic.

Intro

Rafiq Bhatia creates music that feels less like a performance and more like a physical object being meticulously deconstructed and reassembled. It is a world of high-contrast sonics where the warmth of a guitar string is suddenly interrupted by digital glitches that sound like tectonic plates shifting. The music is often heavy and immersive, yet it possesses a surgical precision that keeps it from ever feeling muddy or chaotic.

What truly distinguishes Bhatia is his ability to treat the guitar as a source of raw data rather than just a melodic instrument. He uses the studio as a primary tool, processing his playing until it resembles orchestral swells, industrial machinery, or alien environments. There is a profound sense of architectural scale in his work, moving from microscopic textures to massive, wall-of-sound crescendos without warning.

Start with 'Breaking English' to experience his most cohesive statement on hybridity. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the boundary-pushing energy of modern jazz but wants the visceral, heavy-hitting production of experimental electronic music.
