Aggressive, high-energy Finnish rap that pairs hip-house beats with absurdist humor. Chaotic, satirical, and undeniably loud music for high-octane moments.
Raptori sounds like a high-speed collision between a 90s rave and a comedy club. Their music is defined by a frantic, high-BPM energy that borrows heavily from hip-house and early electronic dance music, topped with vocal deliveries that range from deadpan sarcasm to full-throated shouting. It is music that refuses to be ignored, characterized by its bright, synthetic textures and relentless rhythmic drive.
What truly sets them apart is their specific brand of Finnish satire. While their contemporaries were often trying to mimic the cool, laid-back aesthetic of American hip-hop, Raptori leaned into the absurdity of the Finnish language and culture. They use counter-intuitive rhymes and biting social commentary, all delivered with a 'punk' attitude that makes the humor feel sharp rather than silly. It is the sound of three guys having the most aggressive fun possible.
Start with their debut album, Moe!, specifically the track 'Oi Beibi'. It perfectly encapsulates their ability to turn a romantic trope into a chaotic, chart-topping anthem. From there, explore their later work like 'Ouu-raisakson!' to see how they evolved their sample-heavy sound into something even more polished and bizarre.
Raptori is a Finnish rap group, formed in 1989 in Hyvinkää. They are pioneers of Finnish rap music. Raptori are aggressive and humoristic at once, often using counter-intuitive rhymes. During the last years of the 1990s dozens of new Finnish rap groups appeared but Raptori was among the first. Raptori's first album, Moe!, was highly successful, selling over 80 000 copies and yielding a number one single (on the Finnish chart) "Oi Beibi". After their second album Raptori broke up (or at least left the scene) they came back in 2000 and released their third album. The band made yet another comeback in 2010 and released a new compilation album Sekoelma which included one new song and two remixes of old songs. In the mid-1990s, Ismo Tapio Heikkilä and Juho Peltomaa formed a band called Allekirjoittanut with Tommi Lindell. They have released one album, Generation Å. A fellow Raptori member, Tero Tapio Kaikkonen, also appeared on that release.
