Intro

Ravex sounds like a high-definition explosion of 2000s club culture. It is the sonic equivalent of a Shibuya billboard coming to life, blending the sophisticated 'French Touch' house filters of Shinichi Osawa with the playful, genre-hopping energy of Taku Takahashi and Tomoyuki Tanaka. The music is relentlessly upbeat, characterized by thick, side-chained basslines, shimmering synth arpeggios, and a 'more is more' approach to arrangement that never feels cluttered, only exhilarating.

What makes this project distinctive is its role as a supergroup curator. By pulling in the biggest voices in J-pop and R&B, they transform standard pop songs into floor-filling anthems that retain a sharp, underground production edge. The integration of Osamu Tezuka's retro-futuristic aesthetic adds a layer of 'Astro Boy' whimsy to the otherwise sleek, modern electronic textures, creating a unique bridge between Japan's cultural past and its digital future.

Start with the album 'trax' to hear the full scope of their ambition. Tracks like 'Believe in LOVE' showcase their ability to craft a perfect pop hook, while 'I RAVE U' demonstrates their mastery of the high-energy, sample-heavy rave aesthetic that defined the late 2000s Japanese club scene.

Ravex (stylized as ravex; a portmanteau of rave and Avex) is a Japanese electronic music group, consisting of Shinichi Osawa, Tomoyuki Tanaka and record producer DJ Taku Takahashi. Established to mark the 20th anniversary of the Avex label, their productions are usually based on collaborations with other artists on the label. Tezuka Productions are providing art, animation and the use of Osamu Tezuka characters to the project. Their debut album, Trax, was released on April 29, 2009. The deluxe edition contains a DVD featuring the group's music videos as well as a new 18-minute short featuring Astro Boy and other Osamu Tezuka characters.
